‘Awnings and canopies’

Awnings reduce heat and glare from the outside-in

External awnings provide an effective barrier to minimise the sun’s effect on exposed windows, verandahs and patios. Coastal Window Coverings supply and install a broad range of custom-made awnings in a wide choice of fabrics and colours. Below is a guide on the different awning types.

Straight drop awnings

Straight drop awnings are available in various styles each designed for different building and installation situations. Suitability is generally determined by the opening width and whether there are posts, walls or beams to attach. They are ideal for screening verandahs, patios and entertainment areas where a straight drop can be achieved.

Multi-stop channel

The Multi-stop awning has side channels with brackets attached at the top to hold the roller tube in place. Suitable for fitting into window reveals or any location with a solid post or wall either side to secure against. There is a spring inside the roller that is tensioned at installation enabling it to retract automatically. It is controlled manually by pulling down on the bottom rail and held into positioned by rotating the 5-sided bar to lock firmly into the channel.

Crank Operated & Heavy Duty Channel

The crank operated straight drop awning does not have channels and is more suited to balconies or situations where the bottom rail can be held down to prevent swaying. Included are 2 x stainless steel eye bolts, 2 x saddles and 2 x dog clips which need to be secured to a solid point. The Heavy duty version has side channels to prevent the bottom rail from swaying and can hang at any position by it’s own weight or be locked with pins at nominated intervals. Both variants are controlled via crank handle to raise and lower. The Heavy Duty version can be motorised with sensor options.

Wire guide

The wire guide is similar to the Heavy Duty whereby side channels are substituted with wires, making it ideal for situations where there are no posts to attach side channels. It does however require a solid beam or ceiling structure to fix brackets and flooring for the guide wires to be secured. The standard version is controlled manually via crank handle and can be motorised as an option. Stainless steel wires guide the rail which then rests by it’s own weight when at the desired position.

Zipscreen and Ziptrak®

Zipscreen and Ziptrak® awnings are premium products whereby fabric edges are sealed inside the side channels. The standard versions are controlled by manually raising or lowering the bottom rail and stopped at any height. At the lowest position the bar can be locked into place for added security. The main advantage of these awnings is the capacity to span wider widths of up to 7 metres. The sealed edges allow insects and debris to be shut out when locked down and the designs provide seamless integration into the building. Both systems have a range of standard colour choices and optional pelmets / weather boxes for a smart finish. Motorisation is available as an option.

Automatic Rollup

The automatic rollup awning is ideal on windows and verandah’s where there is a solid wall, beam or posts across the top and sides to secure against. There is a spring inside the roller that is tensioned at installation enabling it to retract automatically. It is controlled manually by pulling down on the bottom rail and held into positioned with arms that lock onto guide rods. The awning projects outwards from the guide rods at the distance determined by the arms length, available in sizes from 150mm to 1200mm. Options available include aluminium or stainless steel arms, Stainless steel guide rods and powder coated weather box.

Drop arm fabric awnings

Drop arm awnings are available in various styles and operate via an arm that pivots in an arc when raised or lowered. The Cord and Reel and Double Arm Cord and Reel styles are ideal for windows that are difficult to access, such as a second storey. They can be controlled via a cord and reel or a crank tape coiler for internal access.

Pivot Arm awnings are ideal for balconies or ground level applications where access is within reach. They are controlled using a crank handle (up to 3m length), with some capable of being motorised. Widths of up to 5.8m and drop length of 2.9m (1450mm arms) can be achieved with the right building support structures. There are optional extras available including weather boxes, spring tension, wind and UV sensors and colours.

Folding arm fabric awnings

Ideal for creating an over head shelter without the need for posts. Fold out awnings provide flexibility with pitch adjustment of up to 60°, outward projection by up to 3 metres and fold away discretely when not in use. They can be controlled via crank handle (as standard) or motorised with optional sensors that detect wind speeds and close automatically when at risk.

Louvre awnings

Louvre awnings are available with fixed or adjustable blades and made from tru-steel or aluminium. They provide excellent protection from the elements and are an ideal way to achieve privacy while allowing air to flow. They are available in a range of colours with optional top cover flashing. The adjustable version is controlled via internal or external handle winders.
